 Home Remedies for Dry Hair

Dry hair can be restored with a few home remedies.
Dry hair can look like straw. The hair thins toward the ends, which can cause split ends. The culprits are usually heating elements, such as hair dryers and curling irons. Many salon products and treatments can be expensive. However, a variety of home remedies can help smooth stressed out and dry hair.

Warm Coconut Oil
Mix ½ cup of coconut oil with four crushed almonds. Place the mixture in a small pan on the stove and cover. Allow the oil to warm over low to medium heat. While the mixture is still warm, apply it to your scalp, massaging the oil deep into your scalp and roots. Cover your head with a towel and leave it on for about 30 minutes. Shampoo your hair and allow it to air dry.

Egg Tonic
Beat an egg in a cup of milk and squeeze in the juice of one lemon. Add a teaspoon of coconut oil or olive oil and mix well. Massage the mixture into your scalp and hair roots. Cover your hair with a moist towel and leave on for one hour. Rinse the hair completely with water, then for the final rinse use lime juice and water.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Mix a third-cup of vinegar with a quart of water. After shampooing, rinse your hair with this solution. The smell will diminish as your hair dries. The vinegar removes scaly build-up and residue from the hair shafts. It also has a tonic action that promotes blood circulation in small capillaries that can irritate the skin. Only use this mixture once a month, because overuse of vinegar can weaken the hair shafts.

Coconut and Avocado
Thoroughly combine one egg yolk and half an avocado. Add enough coconut milk until the mixture becomes smooth. Massage into your scalp and rinse with warm water. Coconut milk and avocado are high in antioxidants that protect the hair. Their oils will penetrate the hair shafts and protect your hair.

Olive Oil and Rosemary
Warm ¼ cup of olive oil in a saucepan. Do not let the oil bubble; you should be able to touch it without burning yourself. Pour the oil into a small bottle and add five drops of rosemary essential oil. Massage this into your scalp and throughout your hair. Cover your head with a shower cap or warm towel and leave on for about 20 minutes. Shampoo your hair to remove the oil and repeat weekly as desired. Rosemary has antioxidants that protect the hair against hair spray, styling products, heating irons and other products.
