Oily skin is prone to blackheads and blemishes. It also looks greasy and shiny. If you have oily skin, adjust your diet so it is rich in protein. Limit your intake of sugar and salt. Wash only two or three times a day. Over-washing may stimulate oil production. You don’t need expensive store-bought products to care for oily skin. There are ingredients in the kitchen cupboards that can help.

Carrot Buttermilk Mask
Mix 2 tablespoons of carrot juice with 2 tablespoons of powdered buttermilk to form a paste. Spread on the skin. Leave the mask on for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. Pat the skin dry. This recipe makes one facial mask.

Egg Mask
Mix together one egg white with 1 tablespoon oatmeal. Spread over the face and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with cool water. Do not use hot water since it will cook the egg. This makes one facial mask.

Tomato Scrub
Mash one tomato and mix it with 1 teaspoon of yellow cornmeal. Massage this cleansing scrub into oily skin. Rinse off with warm water.

Oat and Almond Scrub
Grind 1/4 cup oats with 1/4 cup almonds in a clean coffee grinder. Grind until fine in texture. Store in a clean dry container. This makes 4 ounces. To use this scrub, place 1 teaspoon in palm and add enough water to form a paste. Massage this paste into the skin. Rinse well with warm water.

Brown Sugar Cleanser
Create a handful of lather with soap and water. Add 1 teaspoon of dark brown sugar to the lather. Massage gently into the skin. Rinse with warm water. Splash cold water onto the face to help close the pores. Pat with a towel to dry the skin.

Green Tea Skin Toner
Steep 2 teaspoons of green tea leaves in 1/2 cup of boiling water. Let sit for 2 to 3 minutes. Strain the leaves out and cool the liquid. This makes 4 ounces. Apply with a cotton ball over the face. Do not rinse off.
