How to Make Your Hair Soft and Shiny at Home for Free

Get soft, silky hair at home.
Everyone wants soft, shiny hair that looks like you just stepped out of the salon. Unfortunately, those conditioning treatments that so benefit your hair can be detrimental to your wallet. Stick to your budget while getting soft, shiny hair in the comfort of your own home.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need
Olive oil
Shampoo and conditioner

Avoid applying heat to your hair, as much as possible. Hair dryers, straightening irons and curling irons can damage your hair, making it less soft and shiny. Always let your hair air dry. Limit straightening and curling your hair with an iron to once a week.

Buy shampoo and conditioner that enhances the natural moisture content in your hair. For conditioner, check the consistency. Apply a small amount to your hand to make sure it is thick and creamy.

Rub a small amount of olive oil all over your hands and then rub the palms of your hands over the bottom half of your hair. Apply to the ends, rather than near your scalp, or else your hair will look very oily. Do this once a week to make your hair softer and silkier.

Apply a moisture mask to your hair once a month. Mash an avocado and spread it over your hair. Leave on for half an hour and then rinse. Wash and condition as you normally would. The natural fats in avocados make hair shiny and very soft.

Avoid washing your hair every day. Rather, wash it every other day or every two days. Washing your hair every day depletes your scalp of its natural oils, thus making your hair more dry and less shiny.
