Liposuction To Effectively Shape Your Body

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that deals with localized fat which does not respond to slimming activities such as gymnastics or massage therapy. It is used when this excess fat cannot be eliminated with exercise or other rigorous activities. The main areas which store up this kind of persistent fat are the outer thighs and abdomen. Also affected are areas inside the thighs and knees, the waist and possibly even the back or chin.

Liposuction To Shape Your Body?

Specialists suggest that liposuction is the best solution for this type of problem. Besides the obvious advantages it also helps to prepare the body for summer fun.

The operation is a series of small incisions in inconspicuous places. They are about a half a centimeter wide. Basically, fat is removed from areas which contain the excessive fat and moved to an area that needs more padding. Areas such as wrinkles or depressions in the skin can be padded to give a smoother, fresher look.

The area where the fat was removed retracts neatly and leaves no impression. This form of fat grafting is called liposculpture, taking fat from where it exists in excess and placing it where it was missing. This type of procedure helps to solve the problems associated with localized fat without using large incisions which can leave large, unsightly scars.

What to Expect From  Liposuction Procedure?

The doctor will perform the procedure using a local or general anesthesia. Typically, there is very little post operative pain and any bruising is usually gone inside of ten days.

As a general rule compressive bands or elastic straps will be used to keep pressure on the areas for 15 to 30 days after the procedure. Patients can expect to resume normal activities in 10 to 30 days. This will depend on the extent of the liposuction and the patient’s recovery.

Most of the time, this procedure is performed during the winter months.  This is preferred by patients as it interferes less with outdoor activities. The season is more conducive to recovery as the heat can be a factor in recovery. Also in the winter people have less edema and the bands or straps cause less discomfort than during the hot summer months. There is also less likelihood of the skin being exposed to the sun during the winter months. Then when summer does arrive the patient has recovered and is ready for summertime fun.
