Time For A New Bed? If you want a good night’s sleep the best thing you can do is buy a new bed. Beds don’t last forever, and depending on how often the bed is used could last for less time than you think. A number of factors will affect how long your bed will last for including how heavy you are, whether there are two of you sharing a bed, whether you use the bed a lot -as opposed to sleeping on a spare bed “ and how the bed is used; if you spend a lot of time watching TV for example. These can all affect your bed’s lifespan. However, a bed isn’t designed to last more than 10 years.

So how can you tell you need a new bed? If you wake up with aches and pains that go away after a little while, if you find you slept better a year ago, if you sleep better in another bed, or if there is obvious damage to the mattress or bed base it is time to change things. Onceyou have chosen a new bed you need to make sure that you look after it so it lasts for as long as possible.

The first thing to do is to use a washable protective cover to protect your mattress from any stains. You should also leave the bed covers folded back for at 20 minutes each morning so that any body moisture evaporates. You should also turn and rotate the mattress regularly, every week for the first three months and after that every month, as this will mean it wears evenly and the fillings settle evenly. Also try not to sit on the edge of the bed too often as it can damage the springs. You should also vacuum the mattress and base from time to time to get rid of fluff or dust but try not to dislodge and filling.”
