Tips to Apply Makeup on African American Women

You will find that applying makeup on African American women is not as different as
when you apply make-up on other skin toned women.
Makeup Used:
· Primer
· Liquid concealer
· Good coverage foundation
· MAC Loose or pressed translucent powder
· Brown or black eye shadow to fill in your eyebrows
· Cream or powder eye shadow in bronze, gold, dark chocolate brown, black,
charcoal, etc.
· Black eyeliner
· Black mascara
· Cream stick or powder blush in warm tones (bronzer)
· Burgundy lipstick
Application:
· Your client’s face must be cleansed, toned and moisturised.
· Apply primer all over your face to prevent the eye shadow from creasing in the
fold of your eye.
· Use a liquid concealer to cover any dark spots, only if it’s necessary.
· Apply 3 similar foundation colours onto your cheekbone just to check which one
almost fades into your skin. If you don’t seem to find the correct colour, then you
will choose the best 2 suited colours on her cheekbone and mix these two colours
together at the back of your hand before applying.
· The foundation must compliment her complexion.
· You can either dip your foundation sponge into water before applying your
foundation or you can just use a foundation brush to apply the foundation with.
Make sure that everything is blended in well.
· Dab the pressed or loose translucent powder all over your face.
· Fill in your eyebrows with an eye shadow colour that matches your hair colour.
· Apply a light eye shadow colour over your entire eye area.
· Apply a medium colour eye shadow in the crease of your eye and blend it by
making circular movements. Good colours to use are mauve, bronze, grey, black,
dark navy, dark chocolate and rich violet.
· Line your eyes with black or dark navy eyeliner, but make sure you apply it all
the way at the top and bottom if you have big eyes or all the way on top and only
halfway at the bottom if your eyes are small.
· Apply 1-2 coats of black mascara in zigzag movements and be sure to use your
eyelash curler before applying the mascara.
· Use a warm-toned blush colour and apply it on the apples of your cheeks. Finish
it off by applying a little bit of bronzer onto your nose as well as your forehead.
· Line your lips in a colour that is similar to your lipstick colour and apply dark
lipstick. Good colours to use are earth tones, burgundy and some shades of pink.
· Finish this look off by applying lip gloss over the lipstick colour.
